BUTTERTIES
Ce ne sont plus des cravates
ONCE UPON A TIME...
Once upon a mulberry leaf a plain white butterfly laid a tiny egg. A little, very hungry worm slipped out of it and started to eat leaves until it was a big fat caterpillar. Then it began to spin fine silk to wrap itself up in a cocoon and waited to become a butterfly. But the silk was reeled off and woven into precious fabric. It was dyed with bright colours and printed with patterns to become a tie. .And now that the tie is old and worn, the silkworm’s fine fabric has become a colourful Buttertie
The silk recovered from old ties is reborn in the form of butterflies. This poetic gesture completes nature's cycle and pays tribute to Bombyx mori, the white butterfly at he origin of silk.
DESIGN, CRAFT & RECRAFTING
Artists and designers have imagined and drawn thousands of patterns in thousands of colors, and highly skilled craftsman have applied them onto fabric. "The infinite diversity of the metamorphosed ties makes each Buttertie almost one-of-a-kind, giving this project its unique beauty. Origami, an ancient Japanese folding technique, is transposed onto silk, to create a new craft. It celebrates the Asian origins of silk and transforms small pieces of fabric into objects with meaning.

YOUR BUTTERTIES
The name Buttertie is a combination of two words: They evoke the history of the material but also the relationships between people. The ties, once worn, hold our memories, our emotions, our invisible bonds.
